The Firm

Prior to opening her private practice, Ms. Sedy litigated hundreds of cases in both state and federal court as associate counsel for some of the largest nationwide general liability law firms. She has extensive experience litigating business disputes, breach of contract and fraud claims, personal injury matters, employment and labor law violations, and defamation and First Amendment-related claims.

Margaret A. Sedy graduated Cum Laude from Southwestern Law School, where she was a member of the Moot Court Honors Programs and received multiple awards and recognitions for her academic achievements. She later graduated from the prestigious American Board of Trial Advocates Jack Daniel's Trial School in 2016. Ms. Sedy is admitted to practice law before all courts in the State of California and before the United States District Court for the Central District of California.

In 2021, Ms. Sedy was selected to the 2021 Super Lawyers Rising Start list. This is an exclusive list, recognizing no more than 2.5 percent of attorneys in Southern California. Super Lawyers, part of the Thomson Reuters, is a research-driven, peer influenced rating service of outstanding lawyers who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement.

In 2017, Ms. Sedy received TopVerdict.com's awards for both Top 50 California Personal Injury Settlements in 2017 and Top 100 California Settlements in 2017.

Outside of the courtroom, Ms. Sedy has served as in-house corporate counsel and Vice President of Business and Legal Affairs for mid-market technology companies headquartered in Los Angeles and the UK, overseeing transactional matters, internet, and data privacy, regulatory compliance, and employment and labor law matters. As in-house counsel, Ms. Sedy oversaw a team of more than fifteen attorneys and staff in connection with multiple federal regulatory matters, resulting in exceptionally favorable resolutions.

Ms. Sedy brings her diversified legal and business experience to her private clients, providing a broad range of solutions tailored to each client's specific needs and goals.

When she's not advocating for her clients, Margaret enjoys spending time with her two Siberian Huskies, playing tennis, hiking, and cooking authentic Italian food using family recipes.

Joy Lakin

Ms. Joy Lakin Research and Litigation Assistant

Joy Melanie Lakin is a passionate young professional who is a graduate of the University of Miami. Joy holds a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from UM, where she studied Vocal Performance, Entrepreneurship, and Music Business. During her time at UM, she was a founding member and three-term President of the American Choral Director's Association Frost student chapter and the editor of SAI, a women's music fraternity. Joy worked as a music teacher and professional soprano in Miami, FL, after graduation and has traveled the world singing at venues such as Carnegie Hall, The National Cathedral, and Canterbury Cathedral.

In 2017, Joy became a JD candidate at Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles, California, with aspirations of becoming an Entertainment Attorney and combining her passion for entertainment and business. Joy is currently a 3L law student working for Ms. Sedy while completing law school. When she is not working, Ms. Lakin enjoys spending time with her three-year-old golden retriever.
